I'm Sam-Levi and I'm a transgender man (I use he/him pronouns). I'm a student at UNC Chapel Hill majoring in English and Studio Art. For all of high school, I squirreled away money trying to save for top surgery (a gender affirming surgery trans men get which removes breast tissue to create a more masculine appearing chest). While I have a sizable amount of savings, it is no where near enough. My goal is to be able to afford surgery by the end of my sophomore year. I'm not super crazy about crowd funding but I think it will help me achieve my goal. However, I'm also doing commissions and selling my artwork on redbubble!
Getting top surgery as soon as possible would be amazing for so many reasons. My chest has stopped me from doing and enjoying so many things. I miss enjoying time at the beach or pool. Binding my chest has stopped me from getting to play sports as I used to do when I was younger. Additionally, as I move forward in my medical transition on hormones, my chest puts me in danger as it brings into question my manhood in public places. Getting top surgery would mean getting to do things I miss and would mean feeling safer out in public.
